Candy Lowe, Instructional Director for Social Studies
Candy Lowe, who has 30 years of teaching experience, is the Social Studies Student Achievement Specialist for Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools. In this role Ms. Lowe oversees the facilitation of the Teaching American History Grant Program in Savannah.

Leah Colby


Leah Colby
, Grant Projects Director
Leah Colby serves as the Teaching American History Grant Projects Director. A 1993 Auburn University graduate, Leah is certified in grades PK-8, and holds a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Arkansas. Her responsibilities include coordinating and facilitating workshops for teachers, helping teachers locate materials for classroom instruction, and directing all TAH grant activities.

Desdie Eberman


Desdie Eberman, Program Coordinator
Desdie Eberman serves as the TAH grant’s Program Coordinator.  She has taught in Savannah-Chatham County for the last four years, as both a social studies and gifted teacher.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts and her Educational Leadership Master’s from Endicott University in Beverly, Massachusetts.  She is certified K-12 in elementary and history.  Her responsibilities are to facilitate professional learning programs and support classroom instruction.

Judy Newsome


Judy Newsome
, Content Coach
Judy Newsome serves as the Teaching American History Middle/Secondary Grant Content Coach. She received her Bachelors degree in history and teacher certification from Armstrong Atlantic State University. She also received her Masters in Middle Grades education from Armstrongl. Ms. Newsome taught in the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools for 31 years. Her responsibilities include teaching workshops and mentoring teachers.

Deborah Hargroves, Technology Specialist/ Webmaster
Deborah Hargroves assists Savannah's Teaching American History Grant Program with technology support. Her work with the TAH website provides worldwide access to the many valuable teaching tools and resources created by our team of educators and historians.
