Teaching American History

Savannah’s historic squares and the monuments that adorn them served as the focal point for a comprehensive study of American history through the use of artifacts and primary source documents. The History Is Monumental initiative provided teachers with a unique opportunity to learn and teach American history using one of the nation’s largest Historic Landmark Districts as a laboratory. This professional learning program provided training through local workshops, History Alive!, a graduate-level course offered through Armstrong-Atlantic State University, and a mentoring program for teachers.
